Mortgage loan originators in Texas are responsible for reviewing and verifying if an applicant is financially able to pay back the loan. They use a process called underwriting to determine each applicant’s risk and then determine if the loan should be approved.
It is recommended but not required to use some sort of exam preparation materials before sitting for the state MLO exam. There’s a one month waiting period between the first two failed attempts and 180-day waiting period after the third failed attempt.
When it comes time to take your Texas MLO exam, you will have to take and pass both a national and a state component of the test. You cannot bring in personal belongings but you will be provided with a basic calculator and something to scribble on.
After you’ve completed your 23 hours of Texas pre-license education, each year after, you will need to complete an additional 8 hours of continuing education to keep your MLO license active.
