What to expect for the Montana MLO exam?

The Montana state exam is composed of two sections, the state portion, and the national one. You will need to receive a passing grade on both sections in order to receive your license.

What happens if I don’t pass the State and/or National MLO test?

If you fail both sections of the state MLO exam you will have to retake the entire test. If you pass one section and not the other, only the failed section will need to be retaken. There is a 30 day waiting period before you can retake the test. After three failed attempts there is a 180 waiting period for the retake.

Should I use preparation materials before taking the MLO state exam?

It is recommended but not required to use MLO exam preparation materials prior to sitting for the state exam due to the difficulty of the test and waiting periods between failed test attempts.

How long before I have to renew my MLO License?

The SAFE Act of 2008 requires MLOs to take 8 hours of approved continuing education each year after receiving their license.

What should I bring for the state MLO test?

There are no personal materials allowed during the state test. It’s advised to leave your belongings at home or locked safely in your vehicle. The testing center will provide something to take notes on and a basic calculator prior to the test.
