In order to qualify for a Florida MLO license you must be 18 years old, a high school graduate, take state and federal criminal background checks, and submit a credit check.
In order to sit for the state exam, you must take and pass 20 hours of NMLS approved MLO SAFE courses.
Specific work experience is not required; however, most employers prefer to hire MLOs with a college degree or prior career experience in sales, banking or customer service.
The Florida MLO license state exam consists of two parts: a state component and a federal component. You must get a passing grade of at least 75% in order to receive your MLO license.
Personal items are not permitted inside the testing facility while you are taking your MLO exam. It’s advised to leave your personal items at home or locked in your car while sitting for the state exam. Scratch paper and a calculator will be provided at the testing center.
Each year after completing your 20 hours of pre-license education and receiving your MLO license you will be required to take 8 hours of mortgage loan originator continuing education.
